About "The Miller Tells Her Tale"
"The Miller Tells Her Tale delivers a terrific selection of rarely heard music... dripping fresh with bourbon-sozzled heartbreak" Robbie Hudson, Sunday Times 15 Jan 2006.
"The Miller Tells Her Tale" is a Freeform Radio Show - there are no restrictions on what I can play. The primary aim of the programme is to introduce listeners to music they might not otherwise hear. There are links provided to artist & record company websites.
The genres I play include singer-songwriter, alt-country, americana, contemporary folk, power pop.
Since the demise of SpydaRadio, I've turned the show into a podcast (download). It's available for manual download via this site or via itunes, ipodder etc. The shows are as before, just shorter and a new one is available most Sundays.
However, I do not pay any license fees. There is a good reason for this, the internet licenses are expensive, the license boards are not keen on internet radio in any form, and if I were to pay them it would be a set amount. I would not have to report what was played, therefore the money would not go to the artists I'm supporting - so it all seems a bit silly! I believe, and the vast majority of musicians I have spoken to, agree, that getting the music played is the most important thing, and I'll do that. But, in order to cover myself I need permission from each artist / record label / representative to play the music on air - even if it's just a selection of songs from an album.
I've had fabulous support from artists already. The list includes Eliza Gilkyson, Mary Gauthier, Slaid Cleaves, Jason Ringenberg, Chuck Prophet, Mark Erelli, Caitlin Cary, Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale and Kevin Welch
If I play your song on my show, the playlist will link to your website, I'll also send an email with info (if I have your email address). My top friends on my myspace page are artists featured on the current show. Therefore there are a few ways listeners can find out more about you. As well as all this I am currently working towards an affiliate scheme to link directly to an online store to purchase the album - more details when I have them.
The Miller Tells Her Tale is one of the reporting stations for the Freeform American Roots Chart and the Euro-Americana Chart, I'm also a member of the Americana Music Association.
If you would like to submit a CD for possible airplay then please send me an email in the first instance with details. And, if I think it would be suitable I'll be in touch.
